LAKNI : A mystic calender of the Ahom reign

LAKNI was a peculiar type of calendar used by the Deaodhais of Ahom rule. Deodhais were men of the priestly order of Ahom rulers. The speciallity of this calendar was that instead of numbers the years were characterised by some words. This 'LAKNI' system was acquired by the Ti's from the Chinese people for keeping time. The system had 60 years, 60 months and 10 days a week which was believed to be used by the Ti's before the Ahom rule. King 'Aijep' introduced 'Aijep Lakni' system which was contemporary to the Burmese calendar. Following is a list of Lakni years from the Mungkeu Lakni, 1193 AD(King Sukafa born in this year) to Tauni Lakni, 1268 AD (Sukafa died on this year).
